A man without learning can't achieve much. He faces a lot of difficulties in his life. He will be forced to depend on others for even small day to day activities. In contrast, a learned man enjoys a lot of freedom. He is respected everywhere. He is more powerful.
The accumulated wisdom of a learned man can't be stolen by anybody. It is 100% safe in his brain. The knowledge and wisdom gained by a learned man is imperishable. But what is the state of material things one possesses? These are perishable. An individual lives in constant fear to protect his material wealth.
A learned man can command respect in even alien lands. He will be treated well everywhere. So one should strive to gather knowledge in abundance in his chosen field in order to succeed.
